bidding war

I wish there wasn't another offer on the house we're trying to get. We keep getting phone calls from our agent saying, "You might be edged out a little with your current offer, want to put more towards closing?"

This is why buying a house on a whim doesn't really work. I'm glad I've got a tax return coming.

lose

We didn't get the house we put the offer on even though it was better than the competing offer. Since we have government assistance through our FHA loan there has to be an appraisal done by someone working with the government and there's a greater chance they will find the property unfit and refuse to give us the loan. It's protection for first time home buyers but in this case that protection hurts us because the bank that owned the property knew the other buyer's loan wouldn't be refused based on an appraisal. Also, apparently the other buyer is a single mother so we didn't even stand a chance.

Bummer.

The good news is that I scraped up around $3,500 in a hurry so now when we do find a place we'll have a good starting point and we can start looking immediately.

I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon convincing myself that the property wouldn't have been right for us and it is bound to collapse in the next big storm.

you don't know what you have until it's gone

Nicole,

I can't sleep. I don't care if Bixby makes fun of me this time but it's because you're not next to me. I miss you terribly. I can only sleep in half hour increments.

Our bed feels strangely foreign without you.

It's times like this that I know I married the right woman... Even if the realization hurts sometimes.

The pain makes it real and you're absolutely worth it.

I love you and can't wait to be with you again.

Love,
-Dominic

and I lose again

This time I was sure we had the house. There were no other offers, they had the earnest money in their hands, the loans were all lined up and I even signed the counterproposal contract agreeing to the seller's price.

In the end, the bank that was expecting the money from the seller we were trying to buy the house from decided they would rather take the house (go through foreclosure) than the money. The house will now be foreclosed and go back on the market in something like 6 months.

This really sucks. I've been working my ass off to look at houses, put in offers, sign contracts and still make my 40 hours a week at work plus teaching all day Friday. I haven't been to the gym in weeks and the Bolder Boulder is 8 weeks away.

I'm tired, I'm sick, I'm out of shape and afraid if I don't step it up at work I'll lose my job.
