Intruders

A few weeks ago my husband wrote of our little mouse problem and back then it was just a little problem. After the horrifying death of that first one I did not want to murder any more. Before then I had never seen a cute little mouse have its head smashed in mousetrap before, its brains spilled out onto the floor and its lifeless body still haunts me. Since then, I thought that maybe we could take a buddhist approach and live in harmony with them, after all who are we to say they don't have the right to live? Well that approach worked until the little fuckers multiplied and got smarter and braver and bolder. We agreed to eliminate temptation if they agreed to stay out of sight but they broke the treaty when they started throwing parties late at night, breaking into cabinets and leaving...messes.

For the last couple of days its been all out war. And by "war", I mean Dominic sets the traps and Dominic empties the traps and I squeal in horror everytime he says "we got one!" Yesterday that process was repeated SEVERAL times and in one five minute span with one mousetrap Dominic caught FIVE mice. And afterwards i cried for half an hour. The sound of the mousetrap snapping over and over still rings in my head. Today the battlefield is quiet but the threat of another bloodbath still looms.

Jenn:

So here's my mouse story....a few years ago we had a mouse problem (singular as in one mouse had decided to live in our kitchen)...my little brother was over and he saw the little guy in the kitchen sink. So he (being the disgusting boy that he is) knocked mickey into the garbage disposal and turned it on.....talk about disgusting and horrible...thank god we don't live in that house anymore.

jackie:

Just remember the little fuckers can give you Hanta virus. I felt the same way when we had the mice problem but it is the natural order of things. you know the food chain and all.

Dan:

They sell traps that don't kill catch and release, they also sell traps that don't break their neck but poison or trap inside (don't know if that is better). Also if you put all the food in Tupperware and such, so they can't eat through boxes and such and cut off pretty much all of their food supply that can help get rid of them.

Dan:

DAN SAY GRRRRRrrrr for not posting to your blog for a long time...
