SINKs

Not to long ago we were living the high life as DINKs (dual incomes no kids). It was a cushy life. Not extravagant by any means, just really, really comfortable. There was never a question of how to pay the bills, or which toilet paper to buy (the softest one, of course). We didn't even have to limit our eating out or entertainment. Oh, how things have changed.

Things have changed...for the better. Losing the higher of our two incomes should be devastating, I know, but its not. We're happier than we've been in months, even though our t.p. has been less than soft. As it turns out, the quality of toilet paper is not an ingredient for happiness; enjoying life is.

When Dominic was working (very hard at a job that wasn't exactly feeding his soul) and I was working and going to school, both our energies were drained at the end of the day. His from forcing himself to do work he didn't want to do, mine from chasing 5 year olds and then having to come home and study. Since his lay off, Dominic has been able to do things he loves and work toward making himself a better architect/autocadsman/digital drafter/whatever-it-is-he-does. And when he's not doing that he's keeping our home happy by walking the dog, cleaning the fish tank, and doing all the other little things that make a house run smoothly. He's even had the time and energy to start coupon clipping!

So while money is in short supply in the Filosa house these days, happiness is endlessly abundant. Also, not having money to go out means more time at home doing free things like playing Scrabble and...um...being a young married couple without kids!

Life is splendid!

Dan:

Sweet now time to make a kid... haha

Erin and I are also living on the cheap since my salary is low and hers is OK but we can't really afford to live where we are living in DC (2.4 miles from the whitehouse). Makes for interesting shopping trips.
